I won!

There was a local contest for teachers who work in our community for a chance to win a $500 gift card to the mall here in Atlanta. Some of the students' parents nominated me and I was selected as a finalist for the award. Then, whoever had the most votes would win and it turns out that was me! Woo hoo! I am really not sure what to do with this. I am not the person that buys clothes except at Goodwill because they are too much anywhere else. I have been wanting a Tony Gonzalez jersey, so I may indulge myself that, but I am out of options after that. I will certainly let you guys know what I decide.

On another note, I am really looking forward to this summer. I think being a counselor at the local nature center will prove to be extremely fun and rewarding. Not to mention the extra money that will come with it. It looks like it will be a busy summer, but we will certainly enjoy it and enjoy the lower student loans.

Hope everyone finishes their weeks strong!

  1. I would do a quick check on what sort of perishable goods you can purchase there and divert those amounts from your budget to the debts.

    1. I would also look into gift cards that you can purchase at the mall that could be transferred to or used at the grocery store, for the same purpose.

  2. Many congrats! That's pretty awesome. I too sometimes find that giftcards just do not fit me (like when I get restaurant giftcards during Christmas... and I go to real restaurants like twice a year if that!). I normally sell them online or look into what 28cars said, if you can buy giftcards with that giftcard, or buy another money equivalent. If it doesn't expire/charge fees, you could also keep it. If it's a mall, there are chances something may eventually come by you may want, and you'd have the money for it right there!

  3. Congratulations! Maybe you can use the gift card to get items your friends or family were going to buy but have them pay you cash so you could use it elsewhere?
